Ida Lewis, the lighthouse keeper at Lime Rock in Newport, Rhode Island, became famous for her rescues in the late 19th century and was dubbed “the bravest woman in America.”

She made her first rescue in 1854, coming to the assistance of four men whose boat had capsized. She was 12 years old!

Because of her many rescues, Lewis became the best-known lighthouse keeper of her day. During her 54 years on Lime Rock she is credited with saving as many 25 people.

With a salary of $750 per year, Lewis was for a time the highest-paid lighthouse keeper in the nation. The extra pay was given “in consideration of the remarkable services of Mrs. Wilson in the saving of lives.”

Lighthouse People like Ida Lewis are NOT Born Special!

They learned to use their past Storms & Struggles to become a Light and Message for those who are lost.

A Lighthouse has 2 ways to warn ships:

1.       Light – They shine bright in the Darkness as a beacon of hope. Their actions are their strongest message as they remain calm in the midst of the Storm. Their Purpose is to show those lost how to live by being the example.

2.       Sound – They sound the alarm for those who cannot see the Light or refuse to. A lighthouse will share their “Testimony” of how they overcame past Storms & Struggles.

We become Lighthouse people because of the Storms and Struggles NOT because we have less of them!

Learning to share your Light and Sound your Message is our Purpose and must become our Passion.

All the Storms & Struggles of your past have developed you into a Powerful Instrument of Hope.

You are to be a Beacon in a world of Darkness!

The key to becoming a Lighthouse and not continuing to be a ship lost in the sea of life is to focus on helping those who are around you.

You are surrounded by people at work, church, and neighbors who need to see someone thriving in the midst of the storm.

We MUST stop focusing on how dangerous the storm is and start focusing on how many can we save instead.

Helping others Helps you to Stand on a strong foundation that forces the Storm to crash against you but never move you!

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

You are Lighthouse NOT the Storm. Go Shine your Light and Share your Message!
