Mommies & Mentors

One of my coaches from High School told us on the first day of practice “The only reason you can miss a practice is because you are at a funeral…It better be yours”!

This was the first time I came face to face with a Real Mentor.

We have enough Mommies in our lives. We need MORE Mentors.

I can still remember like it was yesterday how I felt when I met my Drill Instructor the first time at Boot Camp.

He got in my face screaming at me in a language I cannot repeat, asking me if I was a Man or a Woman.

For the next couple of months, our Drill Instructors stayed on us like white on rice.

They did not except excuses, mistakes, disobedience, questioning orders, slow-moving actions, or responses.

Drill Instructors, like my High School Coach, did not care if I felt like getting up, or doing what they asked.

They did not care if my feelings got hurt, if I was upset, tired, or did not feel well.

To this day, my heart rate spikes every time I hear Reveille – Bugle call for troops to wake up!

The goal of these Mentors was to get us from where we were at; Unskilled, Unmotivated, Undisciplined, and Unfocused and develop each of us into something special!

There was a time in our lives when we needed to have Mommies that would baby us.

Today is NOT that time!

We need real Mentors – Men and Women who are willing to help us get from where we are at to where we need to be.

You have enough friends and family members who will Mommy you. They will be there to kiss our boo-boo’s and pat us on the back when needed.

To become Elite or Successful at anything will demand Mentors.

Mentors care More about your FUTURE than your FEELINGS!

We need someone who will NOT take our excuses, rationalizations, or lack of responsibility.

There has not been one time in my life that I was happy when a Mentor came down hard on me, BUT it was always needed.

Happiness came later once I realized how valuable I needed that kick in the rear end!

The best thing you can do today is to find someone who has the success you desire, is willing to help you, and does not care how you FEEL!

There are times we need a pat on the Heinie (Mommies), but MOST of the time we need a kick on the Heinie (Mentors).

Find Your Passion…Find Your Life!
