“Win the morning, win the day.” Tim Ferriss

My first 18 months on the job, I had a chaotic morning routine.

No structure, No Plan, No Strategy and when I hurried into the office, always late, I was nowhere near ready mentally to win the day

Starting your day with the snooze button and reluctantly getting out of bed late is the easiest way to stay broke and cranky!

My old haphazard routine started with hitting the snooze button a half dozen times, and when I finally did get my lazy rear end out of bed it was in sheer panic because it was already too late to make it on time!

This type of morning rebellion forced me into other bad habits: eating junk food to save time, coming into work groggy, and with little to no energy.

The funny part of these 18 months of living without a Purpose was I was frustrated because the company would not promote me!

I Blamed them for my lack of success.

The real enemy was me and not having a morning plan that sets me up to WIN.

The secret to an incredible day… It’s the 1st 60 minutes of your morning.

Setting up a morning routine is a personal thing.  For the last 20 years, I have been molding, adding, and deleting my morning routine.

Your morning routine should evolve and change. If something isn’t working, change it. Don’t latch on just because someone else is doing it.

The morning routine sets the tone of your day.

My 1st 60 minutes looks like this:

Wake up Early: You decide what that is for you, BUT no hitting the Snooze button. The time you get up MUST be a minimum of 60 minutes before you need to LEAVE for work. Add more time if you have other morning responsibilities like kids and lunches.

Core and Stretching exercises:  Most people will warm up their car before they go zipping off to work but treat their bodies like a rental car! My main workout does not happen until the afternoon, but it is essential to do some type of stretching each morning.

Cold Shower: Started doing this two years ago, and it is by FAR the best thing I’ve changed in my morning routine. Bottom line you will be uncomfortable for 3 minutes, but the reward is Hyper Production!

Dress Sharp: Have you noticed the difference from when you throw on sweats to putting on a suit? The attire you choose affects your Attitude and Energy. Dress for the Success you want.

Protein Drink for breakfast: I wake up starving and used to run to the refrigerator and eat a HUGE meal to start my day. This put me in neutral for the entire morning since all my energy was being used to digest the half cow I consumed. A clean protein drink fills me but is easy to digest and does not steal any energy from my morning.

Read or listen to something motivational: 10 to 15 minutes before work each day to feed my mind. No Facebook, No News, No cell Phone, No Emails, No TV – these are junk food and will start your day in the hole.

Get to work Early: This has changed for me over the years. Now I get to work up to 3 hours early every day because I can get more done in those 3 hours than I used to in a 10 hour day! The key here is getting to work BEFORE you are supposed to.

Build YOUR morning ritual, or you will build a life of frustration and disappointment!

Here’s how you get started— pick at least ONE new Habit and start them tomorrow. You can add more in later, but it’s best to start small. Pick one that resonates with you the most. Do them every morning immediately after you wake up for the next 30 days.

The 1st 6o minutes of your day will dictate if you Win The Day!
