There is a story that some attribute to Michelangelo, the famous artist who created the sculpture David.
A fan asked the Artist what are you going to create out of this huge block of marble? Michelangelo answered, “I am not going to make anything out of it. I am going to find something in it. All I have to do is to knock off the pieces of marble that don’t belong with my chisel.”
We all start out in life as a block of Marble. To the naked eye, we look like something disposable and useless, but to an artist, there is a Masterpiece waiting to be found!
The beauty of your life is found on the inside, and the Creator of your life buried a Masterpiece that must be chiseled and at times beaten out.
Michelangelo’s masterpiece of David took him four years working with little sleep and hardly eating. He worked on the statue outside even when the weather was bad.
There are no days off when we are working on ourselves, and chiseling away at our rough edges is HARD WORK!
Far too many people stop reading books and pushing themselves once they graduate from school. School was just the beginning of our Journey.
Now we must see the beauty that is hidden on the inside and start chipping away all the stuff that does not belong: Excuses, Poor Attitude, Being Ungrateful, Laziness, Fears, Unteachable, Arrogance, and Selfishness are just a handful of the Hard Marble that must be chiseled off.
To Create a Masterpiece will take a lifetime.
