Charge or Recon

We were “Playing” War (Blanks no Bullets!), during our six weeks of ground defense training, when our squad was ambushed at close range. All of us immediately hit the ground.

That was a Mistake! The instructor working with us that day was an Army Ranger, and he blew a gasket.

I cannot share most of what he called us after that. He was already upset since he was training Air Force personnel and believed that we were not ready or prepared to fight… He was right!

This Ranger told us that we were all DEAD because we reacted the wrong way. Hard to believe since we were being shot at, although it was with blanks!

You have two choices to make when life starts taking shots at you:

1.            You Fight/Charge at the ones shooting, which means make a decision ASAP and go with it even if you are not sure if it is correct. This is based on the problem being right on top of you.

2.            You hunker down and start getting more information (Recon) as quickly as possible before you make a decision on your next step. This is based on the problem being far away.

The two choices depend on the proximity of the shots being fired at you, are they near or far?

When it is a close ambush, like the one where our instructor blew a gasket, you have no choice but to charge directly at it returning your own fire.

The last year when we owned the Restaurant that was failing horribly I refused to make a decision.  My thoughts were that it would get better, that the economy would change or something miraculous would happen.

Nothing happened except to continuously get worse!

When you are in a situation where life has been taking shots at you continuously then YOU must charge or make a decision ASAP even if it’s wrong.

The only way to survive a close in Ambush is to CHARGE or take Action ASAP.

I could have saved the Restaurant, our home and all of our savings if I had made a decision a year earlier! I never did because I was too scared to make it worse.

The only time you don’t take immediate action is when the shots are far away, BUT they are just warning you that it’s coming. When you find yourself in this situation immediately start to recon…Get information.

Once you get information, then you MUST make a decision, or those shots that were far away will end up on top of you in no time at all. They will eventually outflank you as they did to me and the Restaurant.
