There is nothing like sitting around a campfire with family and friends, even if it’s only in the backyard! Something happens to us on the inside while watching the fire dance…it’s hypnotic and peaceful.

Fire can also be destructive and deadly. Where I live in California, wildfires have been ravaging the State. They are out of control, unpredictable and have no mercy on people, animals, homes or the land.

There are two types of Fire just like there are two types of people. The first one Helps and Heals while the second one divides and destroys!

What kind of fires are you starting and stoking?

Bad fires are really easy to start. All it takes is a spark, and that can happen intentionally like an arsonist would do or unintentionally from something as simple as lightning. There are a million ways to start the type of fire that destroys.

A good fire takes effort and strategy to start. You must plan it out and constantly watch and maintain it so that it continues to bring heat, healing, and hope.

You can see the results of each kind of fire in the workplace.

Bad Fire Starters start destructive fires like division, selfishness, arrogance, jealousy, indecisiveness, cowardice, fear, intimidation, entitlement, and mediocrity.

Good Fire Starters start beneficial fires like humility, boldness, collaboration, courage, excellence, respect, relationship, teamwork, initiative, innovation, creativity, empathy, and perseverance.

What kind of fires are you starting and stoking?

The answer is found in your attitude towards and what you say about work!

A good Fire Starter is passionate about their work and will use their words to promote and build.

A bad Fire Starter is cranky about their work and will use their words to complain and gossip.

Your Attitude is the spark to start the Fire, and your words are the fuel you use to Stoke the Fire!

What kind of fires are you starting and stoking?

We don’t need more arsonists at work and life. We need those who want to start Fires that Help and Heal.
