The Stallion or the Donkey

“I would much rather you be a Stallion that I have to reign in than a Donkey I have to bribe to get going”! This was told to me in an interview by a soon to be boss.

He had asked the question “what is your greatest weakness?” I told him I tend to act like the company is mine and run because I always thought it was better to ask forgiveness than permission.

This type of mentality had gotten me in a lot of trouble in most jobs, but this owner thought it was a strength, not a weakness.

What would your boss, coworkers, and customers say of you? Are you more of a Stallion or Donkey at work?

A Stallion comes in with high energy, wants to get started right away and hates the idea of forming another committee to talk about all the things we want to do. This type of worker hates to be confined to the lazy and inefficient work environment. The Stallion thrives on production and wants to challenge the status quo. Work to them is a blessing, and they look forward to the freedom it brings.

The Donkey barley comes in, and when he does he’s dragging his rear end leaving butt marks! They need to be begged, bribed, threatened and almost beaten to get things done. Nothing pleases them more than to stay in one place taking as much time as possible to complete the simplest of things. Work to them is a curse and should be avoided as much as possible.

The Stallion or the Donkey…Which one are you? We have way too many hard headed Mulls at work who love to cause drama and more work for everyone else.

We need more Stallions!

You’re not born a Stallion you make yourself into one by deciding to act like one. The same goes for Donkeys – people have decided to be a Donkey (Jackass) at work by acting like one every day!
