Getting Stuck

My first time getting stuck in the mud happened while I was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I bought a 1979 Chevy Blazer with a removable roof and roll bar. I loved this truck!

I took it off roading in the spring when the snow was melting, and the ground was soggy.  Had no idea you could get a four wheel drive truck stuck in the mud, but we did. The good news is that I had a bunch of guys with me and we dug our way out.

It took a couple of hours of digging on our hands and knees, but we made it out!

Getting stuck in your job is a lot like getting your vehicle stuck in mud or snow. If you have been working for any length of time, it has probably happened to you.

We get bogged down in office or customer drama and end up not moving. The difference between your job and vehicle is that when this happens to your car, you take action immediately. No one sits in their car for days and weeks hoping it will go away on its own.

Once your car is stuck, you take inventory of the situation. You get out and look at the problem and come up with a plan.

That plan could be to rock the car back and forth until you are free or get some help pushing while you are steering. The key is you take ACTION. It does not matter if the action you take works, it only matters that you start ASAP.

Worst case scenario you have to call a tow truck, someone who is an expert at getting cars unstuck, to get you out of your jam.

You do the same thing when you get stuck (unmotivated/depressed) at your job. Get up and take action – ANY action. The situation only gets worse the longer you stay stuck.

Next week we will discuss some simple things you can do to get motivated and back on track.
