Your job is to Protect me from ME! That’s what I told one of my new mentors after our last epic business failure.
My motto in business had been “it’s my way or the highway.” The problem is my way kept taking us the WRONG way!
Since I wanted things my way only, I surrounded myself with Yes Men. Those are people who will agree with everything you say and do even if they know it to be wrong.
This was 100% my fault, not theirs. They were only doing what I hired them to do…Agree with me!
Let’s say that after losing everything twice in business and the combination of getting older I decided I needed help.
I started looking for a team of people to surround me to Protect me from ME!
These were men and women who could not be bought, intimidated or pressured into doing it my way.
They needed to be an expert in their fields and have a pristine reputation. I was looking for men and women who intimidated me and would not take any of my nonsense.
I desperately needed these men and women in my first 40 years on this planet, but I was too prideful to ask for help or admit I didn’t know the answer.
The right team of advisors in your life can save you so much time, money, and heartache.
Who do you have on your team? Even if you do not have people in place for this, you still have a team around you. The problem is they are just like my old team…Yes Men!
You must be proactive in building your team, or you will end up with the wrong counselors giving you wrong directions.
This is your homework assignment for this week: Find a mentor for each of the important areas of your life – Spiritual, Relational, Emotional, Physical and Financial.
Make sure to choose wisely and that they understand their main responsibility is to Protect you from YOU.
