The Crab or the Oyster

How do you react when someone says something to you that is hurtful, mean, or just not true? Most of us, me included, tend to attack like a crab would do. Meaning we live with the motto, “An eye for an Eye”, or in other words, we return what we received!

I grew up spending some of my time at the shore in New Jersey and I loved to go crabbing while everyone else would go to the beach. Crabs are some of the crankiest creatures on this Planet!

They do not like being touched or even getting too close. Crabs love to take and believe everything is theirs for the taking! They have no friends and get offended at the drop of a hat.

These creatures are always angry and seem to look for ways to get back at the world around them, even to the extent of pulling others down because, if they are miserable, then everyone must be miserable!

The Oyster is just the opposite. It is calm, cool, and collected. The Oyster always produces even when it is being irritated. They never return what was received but always give back more than they get!

The Oyster will turn a piece of sand, something that irritates it, into a priceless Pearl! Instead of an “Eye for an Eye” mentality, it will bless those that would try and harm them.

We can learn a lot from the Oyster and how to respond to a frustrated, cranky, and sometimes angry world.

Today, instead of being the crab and attacking those around you, who are irritating you, why not bless them? This, not only, will be a huge benefit to you and your peace of mind but in the process you will also create some Pearls.

Most of our frustration comes from the way we handle those things that irritate us. Change the way you respond and you change the results for everyone involved.

Will you be the Oyster or the Crab today?
