Hot, Cold or Lukewarm?

Why did you come to work today? Sounds like a pretty foolish question but you would be amazed at how many people get it wrong!

The Gallup Organization has been doing surveys about how we feel about work. They’ve determined the following (give or take a percentage point or two depending on the year)…

29% of us are engaged with our work. We are on the scale somewhere between like and love doing what we are doing. We are HOT and are producing almost 100% of the results for the Company.

54% are not engaged with our work. We don’t really care and do just enough to keep our jobs/professions. We are LUKE WARM and every once in a while, like the blind squirrel who trips over an acorn, we produce enough to barley maintain a pay check.

17% are actively disengaged with our work. We don’t care and we are actively spreading the feeling to everyone we come in contact with.  We are COLD and produce 80% of the internal problems at work. Like cancer we want to spread into every healthy member!

Which group do you see yourself in? Before you answer let me ask you a few questions:

Do you get depressed on Sunday thinking about Monday?

How many times do you hit the snooze button before you get out of bed on a work day?

Do you complain about your job/boss/company?

Are you more excited about 5pm then you are at 8am?

Most people see themselves in the first group but their actions and words put them in the 2nd or 3rd group! If you are unsure then ask your peers and bosses but beware you might not like the answer!

If you find yourself in the 2nd or 3rd group the first step is to take responsibility for your actions. Admit it and make a decision you will like what you are doing because your Will is Stronger than your Feelings!
