The Big Picture

There is a trap that most people will eventually fall into. We will focus so hard on building our dreams that we miss the Big Picture, and even if we accomplish our dreams, we will feel empty inside!

The Big Picture is your real Purpose in Life. It is bigger and MORE important than your paycheck, titles, corner offices, homes, cars, retirement, reputations, and financial freedom. It is a greater concept than running a successful business or being the best manager or employee.

I LOVE ALL of these ambitions, but they are NOT our real Purpose in life. They can become our greatest distractions and our biggest challenges if they are our focus. Your Real Purpose is SO much bigger than Power, Prestige, Popularity, Position and Prosperity.

When we realize and pursue a purpose that is BIGGER than ourselves, then all of the things we desire start to follow us. All of the things that we had been chasing suddenly start to pursue us, and that’s when something magical happens. The stuff we thought was so important to strive after now becomes nice to have…but not a necessity.

This is where you find PEACE, Perspective and Passion, and they are so much more valuable than any amount of money or fame!

PEACE = Fulfillment and Contentment that comes from pursing your Real Purpose.

PERSPECTIVE = Seeing the Big Picture of your Real Purpose.

PASSION = Knowing why you are doing what you are doing and how it serves your Real Purpose.

Regardless of your title, your job description, and the amount of money you make, whether you own your business or work for someone else, your Big Picture is the same: How are you Serving your City? Not just your job, business, non-profit or Church, but what are you doing to serve your City?

Your title or job is JUST a tool to serve the greater good. The challenge comes when we think our TOOLS (Titles/Jobs) are our Purpose!

Business Owners & Sales People: Serve your City not JUST your customers and clients!

Pastors: Serve your City not JUST your congregations and denominations!

Managers & Employees: Serve your City and not JUST your customers, bosses and brands!

What can you do to help, to serve, to make your City better? How can you collaborate instead of compete with others? What boards or committees can you join so that your “Tools” can better serve the City?

What are you doing that is bigger than your paycheck? We were not created and called to build our own Kingdoms, but instead we were created and called to serve our City (Big Picture).

Do this first and watch the magic happen in you, for you, and to you!
