“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” Jim Ryun is the author of this quote, and he is an American track and field athlete who won a silver medal in the 1968 Summer Olympics in the 1,500 meter run. He was the first high school athlete to run a mile in under four minutes and is the last American to hold the world record in the mile run.

I love this quote because in just a few words, Mr. Ryun is able to capture what it will take to be successful in any endeavor. Motivation will open the door of opportunity, but consistent effort is what produces the habits that keep you going.

Being consistent at something is the Gold Standard in life and will ultimately lead you to the Promised Land! Lack of consistency is the biggest reason for not reaching our goals, dreams and desires. If we will continue everyday doing just a little toward our goals, it will eventually lead us to what was once thought impossible!

The big reason our relationships, finances, work, diet, exercise, or any worthwhile goals do not come to pass is because we are NOT CONSISTENT in our daily habits! We start by rationalizing and making excuses, and that eventually leads to quitting. Instead, start by finding ONE STEP you can take daily, and do that every day until it becomes a habit. When you have mastered that one step in consistency, you can build on it.

Being consistent is NOT EASY but it is a WHOLE LOT EASIER than quitting! Even if your consistent effort is ridiculously small, it will still lead you to your goal. Being CONSISTENT is The KEY to everything!

I absolutely LOVE this because it is more valuable than skill, talent and ability! You might not have been born with the same amount of natural ability as others but you CAN win by being Consistent… and that YOU CONTROL!

Choose to WIN this day by being Consistent. Create great habits by focusing on one goal and doing the same worthwhile steps every day. You do not have to be Good at it, skilled, or talented to succeed. You just have to KEEP GOING!
