WHAT IS YOUR KRYPTONITE

Superman is my favorite super hero. Growing up, I saw him on TV (one of the 3 channels we actually had on TV), in comic books, and even on a special appearance of I Love Lucy! For those of you under fifty, please go ask someone with lots of gray hair to tell you about it before you continue reading.

He was able to do anything: faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap a tall building! No matter what he faced, you knew he was Superman and would overcome—until something from his past was introduced to his present and would rob him of his “Super” so that he became just a man. That poison from the past was Kryptonite!

What robs you of your “Super”? What is it that bubbles up from your past to rob your future? What is your Kryptonite? Everyone has a Kryptonite, and it always comes from our past to collide with our present with the goal of robbing your future! Its objective is to violently take your “Super” from you so that you believe you are just an average man or woman.

Do any of these Kryptonite’s sound familiar?

I was just born this way! (This is my favorite one to use)

My Dad abused me when I was a child.

I do not have the education necessary.

My family has always been poor.

I was bullied on the playground.

My Mom was an alcoholic.

I have the wrong skin color.

I was fired from my job.

You might have faced every one one of these and hundreds more, but they can only rob you if you allow them to. I have yet to meet a person who has not had to face hard and unfair times. I have also met people who have faced a thousand times more than most yet still succeed in every area of their lives.

Your past can only rob your future if you continue to live and relive it. What happened yesterday, a year ago, or 200 years ago can only hurt us if we allow it to. Some types of Kryptonite will take more than what you have currently to overcome. That is why I highly recommend getting counsel and help from your Pastor, a therapist or someone who has overcome similar challenges. Superman was not a Lone Ranger! He surrounded himself with people he trusted and could support him.

All of us have at least one Kryptonite from our past, but it does not have to rob us of our “SUPER”!
