This had to be a mistake! I was just as miserable and frustrated with my new job as I had been in the Military. I could not wait to get out of the Air Force, after eight years, to start what I thought would be an exciting and fulfilling career in sales. Welcome to Groundhog Day; I was reliving the same disappointing and frustrating day over and over.

Do you remember Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day? It’s a classic movie about a frustrated man stuck in what he believed was a dead end job and a dismal town. Every day he would wake up and have to live the same monotonous day over and over without any hope of things getting better.

Like the movie, everything changed for me when I started to change my focus, started serving people and being thankful for what I do have, instead of obsessing over what I don’t have! To break out of your Ground Hog Day, you have to stop looking at the greener grass in someone else’s life, home, family, church, job and money. Start by watering your own grass; BE GRATEFUL for what you have!

Start by writing down three things you are grateful for every day. In the beginning, it will be as hard as starting an exercise program, but if you stay with it, YOU will change from the inside out. If you watched the movie, you will remember Bill Murray changed ONLY when he changed his focus, and began to see the beauty of helping others. He stopped complaining about what he didn’t have.

My frustrated sales job transformed into a “can’t wait to get to work” sales job in less than six months’ time because I changed on the inside. I learned to water my own grass, and it saved me from a frustrated, colorless life. It’s time to start splashing colors into your life!
