I love watching the old black & white movies on AMC, especially the swashbuckling pirate movies in search of treasure! There is always a map involved that everyone is fighting for and willing to die over—a Treasure Map that will lead to untold riches and exciting adventures.
In every pirate movie, there is only one map and one treasure, but in real life everyone has his own map that leads to treasure! We were all born with a built in map; it is imprinted in our DNA, and if we follow the clues, it will lead us to treasure: our Passion!
Most of us think of gold & silver when we talk about treasure, but true wealth cannot be measured by how much we earn or have. If that is the only standard for wealth, then even if we find it, we will end up as empty and lonely as the pirates who risked everything for it.
The truth is that the map is even more important than the treasure; it’s the ONLY thing that matters! The map IS the Treasure, and you already have it. All you have to do is follow your internal map to unravel the hidden clues.
Begin by asking these questions: What are your talents and abilities? What do you love to do—that you would do for free if you had the opportunity? The answers to these questions will lead you down the trail to the treasure point on your map.
For the second challenge, you must start to dig. Answer these questions: What injustices make you angry? What causes or issues tug on your empathy? And finally, what is it that other people have told you that they admire about you, what they wish they could do that you do? Answering those questions will lead you to the key to self-discovery. Once you have that key, simply take action and unlock that treasure chest!
Start today on your new adventure by following the clues. They will eventually lead you to your treasure (Passion)! The adventure your clues will take you on is where you will find everything important: peace, courage, love, hope, meaning, friendship, knowledge, contentment and a lifetime of excitement!
You are a modern day pirate, so stop watching and wishing for your treasure and get into the hunt!
