Lions, Tigers and Bears…Oh my! Dorothy and her crew from the Wizard of OZ chanted this mantra over and over as they were entering the forest. They were following the Yellow Brick Road in their quest to find courage, heart, mind, and a way home for Dorothy and her dog, Toto.

I was thinking about this movie and how closely it resembles our quest to find our Passion. As we start to pursue our Passion or at least what we think it is, we run smack into our fears: Lions, Tigers and Bears! When confronted by those fears, we often start chanting (talking and rationalizing) about our fears and eventually they derail us. Once we take our focus off the prize and start focusing, instead, on our fears (why we cannot do it) then our quest turns into a nightmare! Our Lions, Tigers & Bears sound like this:

I’m too old/young
I was just born this way
I’m not strong, smart or good enough
I don’t have the money, time or knowledge

It’s okay to be afraid! Everyone is! The key is to find your team – a team that can help you along the way: friends who will encourage and believe in you and mentors who have been where you want to go. Together, as you travel down the Yellow Brick Road, you will face your fears and since it will be there, no matter what you do, it will be better to face them head on, with the support of your team, constantly moving towards your goal.

The beauty of your journey is not what you get at the end of your quest, but what you become during your quest. Stay the course no matter what you face and you will be amazed at what you will become! As you follow your Yellow Brick Road you will find your heart, mind and courage!

Find your Passion and you will find your life!
