Growing up we would spend part of the summers in New Jersey. My family loved going to the beach, but all I wanted to do was find a pier to fish and catch crabs all day. Once you spend time with crabs you learn how shallow and negative they are. I could fill up a bushel and not have to worry about putting a lid on to keep them in!
It’s called the Crab Mentality and works like this: as soon as one brave crab decides to get free the others near him or her will reach out and pull her back down into the bushel. Misery must truly love company in the crab world!
Have you noticed that people can be strikingly similar to crabs!
Try this experiment to see who will pull you down to keep you from achieving your dreams (getting out of the bushel). Share with those around you one of your larger dreams and see who pulls you down and who lifts you up. Warning: do not try this if you want to continue living in an illusion of security!
My wife and I learned this lesson when we wanted to buy our 1st house. Almost everyone told us not to and it was all based on why we should not or because of all the bad things that could happen. At first this affected us in and for a time we started to believe we would just have to continue renting. That changed rapidly when we found someone who helped us and believed it could be done and within one year we bought our dream home!
Your Passion will give you the strength to stand your ground and repel the crabs! Passion will also start to draw others around you who want to get out of the bushel and are willing to lift you up and not tear you down.
